An unplanned expat blogger behind Quill Paper Grove

Hey, I'm Michael
I work as a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Mountain View, United States.
A few years ago I moved here with my family, and what began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Began
Moving to United States wasn't part of the long-range plan. Like many expatriate moves, it started as a job opportunity and quickly grew into something much bigger.
The initial months were demanding — new systems, new routines, new expectations. Everyday tasks felt more intricate than they should.
The Adjustment Phase
There was culture shock, uncertainty, and a lot of learning by doing. But gradually, routines formed. We found places that worked for us, met other families, and began building something that felt stable.
Why I Built Quill Paper Grove
Most information online was either corporate-level relocation guidance or surface-level tourism material. What was missing was honest, everyday family perspective.
This site aims to bridge that gap — practical guidance based on real life in United States.
What This Site Represents (And Does Not)
This site is:
- Real-world experience from life in United States
- Centered on family life and day-to-day realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site isn't:
- Not a tourism authority resource
- A platform for sponsored reviews
- Just another travel blog
Looking Forward
Our time in United States continues, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I’ll continue documenting what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Mountain View or anywhere in United States, you're welcome to reach out.
Best regards,
Michael
